San Antonio, TX-
Eighteen teams competed in the 16U division over the weekend, and four teams were able to remain unscathed once the action completed. Here are the four teams who took care of the competition:
(16U Division)
Houston Hoops Centex Parrish 4-0
A talented 2028 group playing up, in one of the top pools, proved they are a group that will be making noise all season long on the spring and summer circuits. They featured a balanced attack that consistently had a quartet of players carrying most of the scoring load. Nolan Embry (Cedar Park HS), Qaylen Davis (Glenn HS), Ethan Tryals-Meyer (Cedar Park HS), and David Shyllon (Rouse HS). Of the group all hit double digits in the scoring column, but Embry would drop 24 points and connect on 6 three-pointers in their win over ATX Lockdown. Their average margin of victory on the weekend was by nearly 21 points a contest. Shyllon is a 6’5” big that showed the ability to run the floor and battle down low on both ends, oozing with so much potential and a tremendous upside.
SAB4L 4-0
One of the true surprise programs that hailed from the #325 and Abilene. SAB4L came in unknown to our staff, but certainly left an impression with their play on the court. Playing in competitive, tight contests, three of their four wins were by single digits, showing plenty of resolve for a team so early into the spring club season. The overall leading scorer was Julius Petty who hit double digits in every game, averaging 15 ppg for the weekend. Trey Johnson and Arden Mason did their part with contributions to help the scoring load. Mason had a game high 22 pts in their win over the South Panthers.
STX Bandits 3-0
Representing the South Texas Valley, the Bandits left their mark blitzing through their opponents, with their narrowest win coming by 19 points. Raul and Roel Palacios (Edinburg North HS), along with Caleb Silva (Weslaco HS) served as the offensive leaders. The Palacios brothers showed the ability to hit from the perimeter, but this group took advantage of their speed, tenacity, and ability to get to the hole and consistently finish. That tenacity was on full display defensively, limiting opponents offensive output, with 51 points as the opponents high. All around, an impressive outing by the Bandits.
Lake Travis Elite 3-0
There were certainly some solid team efforts and individual performances all weekend, LTE truly embodied the team model. In all three of their wins, a different player served as high scorer. From Presley Kemp, Kade Shaver, Aaron Mathis & Julian Horn. Even more impressive is that for the weekend no one scored more than 14 points in a contest, showing the teams depth. Going 10-11 players deep in the rotation. The scoring balance was incredible as two of their three wins came by more than nineteen points.
