Moseley pours in 32pts, leads Tigers to first ever State Berth

San Antonio, TX-

The Stony Point Tigers went into Saturday’s Region IV Final with one goal in mind. Do not have a let down after their instant classic win on Friday, and take care of business to advance to the State Final 4 at the Alamodome next weekend.

It didn’t take long to see that the Tigers were locked in and remained on a mission. Josiah Moseley (Villanova Signee)  would sink his first trey and give the Tigers an early 9-3 edge, over O’Connor HS. Teammate and point guard Uzziah Buntyn would add a point blank bucket just before the first quarter buzzer, as an air ball found it’s way directly into his hands under the hoop for the easy two points. Stony Point led 17-9 after the first eight minutes.

Moseley would continue his offensive onslaught in the second period, as the Panthers had no answer on the interior or exterior for his game. At the half, Stony Point would hold a 37-17 advantage. Moseley would set the pace with 19 points and 10 rebounds at intermission.

Credit to the Tiger’s defense as they locked up the Panthers offense, limiting them to only eight points in the second stanza. Moseley at 6’8” and DaVaughn Hueitt also standing 6’8” would block and alter shots, clean the glass, and were a daunting presence inside the paint that kept the Panthers at bay.

The Tigers would not let up as O’Connor would get no closer than 18 points in the second half, 43-25. As they did all game, Stony Point would respond and close out the period on a 14-5 spurt. Moseley would hit another three-pointer from just off center and the Tigers would cruise the rest of the way in route to their programs first ever State Tournament appearance, 65-42.

“That’s the thing I’m most proud about. I never folded and I never changed who I was. Not for the non-believers, not for the individuals who think that we can’t do it, but it’s such a a testament to these young men. They come in they bust their tails everyday. They come in they take hard coaching and we do it the right away, and the basketball Gods will continue to bless us when we do it the right way,” said Stony Point Head Coach Antoine Thompson.

On the afternoon, Moseley finished with 32 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks. Buntyn would also add 16 points for the Tigers. Opponents are still to be determined, but Stony Point will next head to the Alamodome for their 6A State Semifinal match-up, next Friday evening. Stony Point now stands 37-1 on the season and is clicking on all cylinders headed to the Dome.

In defeat, O'Connor was led by Evan Herrera, who led the Panthers with 15pts. Coach Jewasko and his Panthers end the season with a 26-13 mark, Region IV Runner-Up.
