                Missed free throws coupled with turnovers, and some key buckets, were the perfect recipe for the Brennan Bears to rally from an eleven point deficit, 68-57, with only 1:45 to play in the game, and a solid chance to rock the basketball hierarchy in the State of Texas.

Kingston Flemings would get a driving layup in the paint, followed by an Isaiah Ward layup. Senior Robert Jackson would add two free throws. Flemings would use his speed again to knife through the lane and get two more points.

After a Wesley Yates free throw, Flemings would go to work again. This time as he came across the top of the key, he would step back behind the arc, and calmly raise, elevate and drain a triple. Making it a 69-68 deficit with thirty-two seconds remaining.

With 14 seconds left in the contest, Yates would go back to the line, making the first, but missing the second free throw. Both teams would trade turnovers and Brennan would miraculously get the ball back on the sideline, in front of their bench. Camden Cowgill would inbound and hit Jackson right above the left block, kicking it right back to the open Cowgill who would fire from the right wing. The shot was online, just too strong as it went over the rim.

Brennan Head Coach Dakota Cowgill talked about how the young bears just started clicking down the stretch and put themselves in a position to win.

“I think we just started to compete and find ourselves and play a little more comfortably offensively and be more aggressive on the back end of their soft traps. We hit some big shots, Donovan Criss hit a number of three’s some big three’s to kind of pull us into it. Ward was on the glass, he hit the rim. Rob (Jackson) attacking the basket and finishing plays, was huge. We just couldn’t quite get over the hump.”  

As the final horn sounded and triple zeros displayed on the jumbotron, a collective gasp could be heard all throughout the Alamodome as Beaumont United escaped, with a 70-68 win. University of Washington signee, Wesley Yates showed why he’s one of the nation’s top prospects with critical bucket after bucket, leading the Timberwolves with 31 points. Kayde Dotson would add 16 in the win, and Trealyn Porchia would pitch in 15 points.

The Timberwolves move onto the 6A State Championship Saturday night and await the Desoto/Lake Highlands winner.

Brennan finishes it’s season the 6A Region IV Champ and an overall mark of 32-8. Fabulous freshman Isaiah Ward led the bears attack with 26 points and a monster 14 rebounds. Kingston Flemings finished with 14 points, and Donovan Criss showed his perimeter touch by connecting on three treys, adding 10 points.
