Fourth quarter blitz secures LCP's bid in the 5A Championship...

San Antonio, TX-

Early fourth quarter, both Fulshear and Lubbock Cooper were even, exchanging buckets, leading to a forty eight all tie. Then it became the Peyton North show. Cooper would respond with a 14-0 run, to which North had 12 of the Lady Pirates 14 points. She would carve up the Fulshear defense with 5 straight layups, two of which ended with and one’s.

In the blink of an eye, with 3:20 left in the game, Cooper would go up 62-48, and essentially put away what was a tight, competitive game for three plus quarters. The Lady Pirates earned a 5A State Championship berth with a 70-52 win.

Cooper Head Coach Kyle Lovorn decided to deploy his 5-out offense in the 4Q, and let his smaller guards go to work. North, Esquivel, and Cortez all took turns using their ball-handling and quickness, to finish at the rim with open layups.

Fulshear would only muster seven points in the entire fourth quarter, to Cooper’s twenty-four. This run completely changed the outcome of the game.

On the night, North would drop a game high 31 points and added two treys to her scoring performance. Teammates, Carisa Cortez would add 14 and Majik Esquivel pitched in 12 to help carry the offensive load.

It was North who would hit a three-pointer near the end of the third quarter to give Cooper a slim 46-45 advantage heading to the final frame.

At the half, Cooper also enjoyed a slight lead, 29-26, before both teams headed to the locker room.

Fulshear concludes their season with an overall 33-6 mark. Junior Kimora Lopez would pace the Lady Chargers with 18 points and connect on four treys.

Cooper now prepares to face Frisco Liberty at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, for the class 5A State Championship.
