Some of the good stuff from day one at the ACH Takeover

Cibolo, TX-

The first ever AlamoCityHoops Takeover started with plenty of action and eye opening moments Thursday.

Here’s a snapshot on just some of the things that grabbed our attention.

-Jaxson Vande Garde (2024) is a player. In Buda Johnson’s tight win over Shoemaker, he poured in 29 points and sunk 6 three-pointers. The more impressive thing is that he’s a floor general and doesn’t force the scoring. He exploits match-ups and makes the defense pay from the perimeter when they don’t account for him.

-Watching the talent, and although Corpus Christi  Veterans Memorial didn’t get the results they wanted, you need to know about two freshmen. 6’2” Sean Mandrogan (2026) and 6’4” Billy White III (20206). Both can let it fly, long, athletic, and both are either starting or in the Top 7 rotation for Coach White.

-For those who haven’t seen Hudson Greer (2025) play, you’re missing a special talent. The 6’6” wing from Lake Travis HS put in a very efficient 32 points in just over three quarters. He scan score from all over the floor. When he wasn’t rocking the gym with a windmill in transition, he was showing off unlimited deadly range from beyond the arc. The 4 Star, Top 100 National prospect is truly a high major talent.

-A 6’3” athletic guard who did a little of everything is DeShawn Crawford of Desoto HS. He paced the Eagles with 15pts in their victory and served as a catalyst on the defensive end as well. A quick, athletic player, he served as the fuel that sparked Desoto to separate from Anderson HS on Thursday.

-Sharpshooting Gilbert Parra (2023) led an onslaught by Laredo Nixon, as all of his 15 points came from distance, nailing a total of five treys. It was a team effort by the Mustangs, aka “The Brotherhood.” Coach Solis and his team were relentless in their defensive pressure, and their fast-paced offense that gets up and down the court.

-The host Steele Knights, went 2-0 and had some impressive performers. 2023 point guard Pablo Francis guard/wing Jonah Johnson (2024), and guard Camren Roper lead a three-headed attack. Francis was key in penetrating and slicing up defenses. Johnson showed off a nice, smooth, consistent outside shot. Roper showed versatility in scoring inside and from out. He also is valuable with solid handles and helps share the floor general duties in leading the Steele attack. On Friday, they now will face Desoto in the primetime matchup of day two action in the Takeover.

Play resumes at 10 a.m. on Friday morning. Be sure to see the full schedule on our FREE AlamoCityHoops APP. Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate.
