As many as six different sites hosted teams and talent from across the country for the PBR Super 64, all in the DFW Metroplex. Our staff caught the final day’s action as we anchored down inside Fieldhouse USA-Mansfield and saw plenty of solid performances on the day.

Here’s a blitz recap on just some of the talent who stood out.

Melanie Garcia 5’3” PG El Dorado HS 2022 (EP Hustle)
Showed good handles all over the floor. Was able to push the rock when transition called for it, or in the halfcourt took defenders off the dribble and was able to turn the corner multiple times. Showed nice range on her jumper, from mid-range to beyond the arc. Nice vision and looked for the open teammate if her shot wasn’t there.

Majik Esquivel 5’7” G Planivew HS 2024 (Hoop 10 Storm)
The sophomore to be showed she has a quick trigger and could nail it from long range. She made the defense account for her. If she wasn’t hoisting it, she constantly had her head up, surveying the field and looking for the next pass, or a crevice to attack off the bounce. Her handles compliment her guard game well.

Rian Forestier 5’10” G Brandeis HS 2024 (Players First Basketball)
An all-around guard who continues to impress. She displayed that she can run a team as the point or be a weapon off the ball. In addition to nailing the game winning trey as seconds remained on Thursday, she has a very nice smooth mid-range game to compliment her long range. She’s a shot maker. Plays with high intensity and is very active defensively. Her trajectory is trending upward.

Vivian Iwuchukwu 6’3” C Cole HS 2024 (Player First Basketball)
Another youngster who has put plenty on notice. Her solid frame first catches your attention. Then you see her use it, and do so by being physical, carving out space and for being a 2024, knows how to seal her defenders very well. Establishes herself down-low, and then shows off her footwork. From drop steps to reverse pivots, and then surprised College Coaches and on-lookers when she stepped out to the perimeter and was effective from the short corner. She stretched her range further and also connected on a set corner three-pointer.

Kayanna Cox 5’7” G Caddo Mills HS 2024 (Team Takover NTX Red)
Continuing with the young 2024 talent on hand, this young guard will be a name to know throughout the state of Texas shortly. Her handles and grasp on running a team were simply smooth. At moment’s notice she would flip the switch and go 0 to 60. Her quickness was eye-popping. Easily going to her left hand, or behind the back and changing direction. She’s a floor general who facilitates with ease and plays unselfish ball. Couple that with a soft and lethal mid-range jumper, she’s a serious talent.

Milica Matic 6’0” G Bella Vista Prep 2022 (Texas Platinum Bruce/Bartlett)
One of the better shooters we saw on Thursday. Connected on three treys in the game action we saw. Her catch and release were tough to defend. She had no hesitation and quickly fired away, splashing from deep. Her work in getting the smallest of space, was impressive. She goes sideline to sideline, constantly moving, using curls, screens, back door cuts, whatever it took to get open. Played very poised, never rattled, and showed she could also score by attacking off the dribble and finishing at the rim. Plus handles make her a double threat to score from outside or in.

Laylonna Aplin 5’9” G/F Stamford HS 2023 (West Texas Shockers)
Filled up the scoresheet with 23 points in the contest we saw and added 3 treys to go with it. Very nice touch on the set three-pointer and she took what the defense gave her. When defenders were on her, she had no issues in using her length and ability to put the rock on the floor, get to the tin, and finish in deep. Had a quiet demeanor and was solely about letting her play doing the talking on the floor. Used her good size and did her part on the boards, showed no fear in banging bodies and hitting the glass.
