San Antonio, TX-
On Friday evening, the Boys UIL season tipped off around the State of Texas and we had eyes on the Round Rock Dragons who came down I-35 to take on the Reagan Rattlers.
Reagan would use a 22-13 4th quarter scoring advantage to up end the Dragons, 59-56. With just over five minutes left to play in the game, Reagan would trail 52-45. Jackson Adams would have a clean look on a set three-pointer from the right corner and he would drain it while drawing the contact from a fly by defender. He’d miss the free throw, but from that point on, the Rattlers would close the contest on an 14-4 run, prevailing with the win.
It wasn’t until late in the fourth period that Reagan was able to jump in front and hold onto the lead for good. Patrizio Loya would attack the front of the hoop and finish with a strong layup and draw the whistle. He’d put in the and one, and with a few more free throws the Rattlers would not relinquish the lead.
Senior point guard Keith Davis was the biggest reason that Reagan was able to mount a comeback, after trailing by double digits in the first half. The fleet footed guard repeatedly used his quickness to knife through the defense into the paint and finish at the bucket. He mixed in a perimeter game also connecting on two treys and finishing with a game high 21 points. Adams added 14 points and showed off his range nailing four three-pointers in the contest.
In what was a one point contest at the half, the Dragons would hold the slight edge heading into the locker room, on the strength of Larson Featherstone’s work down low, giving him 8 points at the break and Jae’lyn Brooks with 7 points.
The Dragons led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter, appearing to be opening things up when Reagan Head Coach John Hirst called a timeout and would regroup the Rattlers quickly.
Out of the T.O., Adams would connect on back to back treys, making it a 21-15 game. Davis would continue to assert himself by getting into the lane. His offense nearly eliminated the 12 point deficit, and made it a 28-27 affair at the half.
In the loss, Featherstone would pace the Dragons with 12pts and 8rebs. Brooks had 11pts and Jalen Lee had 10 before fouling out late.
