San Antonio, TX-

With 5.5 seconds left, the John Paul Gaurdian's would have enough time to draw up a solid look, in an attempt to tie the game with San Antonio Christian High School (SACS). Conner Asadourian would get a sideline in-bounds to Dezmon Dudley who came around to the left wing, he reversed the ball back to the top of the arc finding Mikey Rhoder. The guard shot faked, then took one dribble to the left, firing a long 3ptr that would bank off the glass and hit the front of the rim, off the mark. Leaving the Lions in the winners circle, 58-55.

Credit to the Guardians who battled back from a double digit deficit in the first half, trailing by as many as 13pts when they went into the locker room, 36-23. SACS used a 13-3 run to close the 2nd quarter, and it was a key part in them being able to build a big enough lead to hold on. After being tied at 20 all, during their run Eli Fritz would connect on a trey, then Marc Eyman nailed a three-pointer, and Mason Cyrus would also splash one in, giving the Lions a comfortable advantage, and enough of a gap to eventually pull out the win.

Sophomore Marc Eyman led all scorers with 21 points for the contest, and he showed a very good ability to score inside and out. He had two 3ptrs on the night, used a solid mid-range jumper, and also put the ball on the floor a couple of times, getting past defenders with ease. The 6'1" guard definitely shouldered the scoring load, as he was the only Lion to reach double-figures in the victory.

It was Eyman who drew a triple team of defense, then found a cutting Dean Umsted on the left side of the lane, for an easy layup with 10 seconds left, to give SACS their last bucket of the contest.

John Paul II would outscore SACS 32-22 in the second half, and used a stingy, aggressive defensive effort to be right there in the end. Sophomore guard Dezmon Dudley was their catalyst, pacing the Guardians with a team high 19pts.  Teammate and senior CJ Kowalik had a blue-collar night, getting near a double-double with 7pts and 9rebs. With the loss, JP II falls to 15-3 overall for the year.
